We did some simple research on low retention rates and their connection to emptier sounding videos using a small number of people watching videos on various platforms. During our research we found that videos that are full of uncomfortable periods of dead air caused a serious lack of enjoyment of the content. We also found that this often leads to a low retention rate. The people who participated often weren't willing to give the videos much of a chance if they sounded pretty empty and low energy during even the first minute. Unless it's for a short or a reel, a retention rate of less than a minute isn't very good.

Using good background music to create a fuller sound is a great way to start improving this problem! It isn't enough to clear the problem up completely by itself, it is however a great way to get the ball rolling in the right direction!
